WIORA 2007

If you can lay your head on your pillow each night knowing you gave hundred per cent to your day, success will find you. The committees and volunteers of WIORA and Clifden Boat Club gave one hundred percent throughout this fantastic event and pulled it off with flying colours. Unfortunately, Mother Nature put a halt to the first two days of racing.

Alan Crosbie, Race officer made a very good call and cancelled the first two days due to adverse weather conditions and didn’t want to put crew and boats at risk. News travelled fast and the pubs opened early! By Friday most of the crews were drained and I can tell you from experience that it wasn’t a result of a hard days sailing…

There is no ‘I’ in ‘Team’! WIORA 2007 was totally a group effort. Special thanks go out to Clifden Boat Club committee, RIB drivers, catering staff, race officers and numerous other individuals who put blood, sweat and tears into making WIORA 2007 a memorable event.

Throughout Friday and Saturday’s racing everything ran very smoothly and five races were very professionally and flawlessly ran.

WIORA has gone from strength to strength over the past number of years and it is down to an excellent committee driven by Simon McGibney. I don’t think that anyone is complaining that WIORA 2008 will be held for a 2nd year in Clifden.
